The core mystery of this route is why Ikki & the heroine are together in the first place, the mysterious “month” they seem to have together before time is up, and the mystery of why Ikki’s such a playboy in the first place. Which something I thought I’d make a note of. Around halfway through the route, the focus shifts to be more on Toma & the heroine, & the fact he locked her in a cage, than the mystery surrounding the route. He needs some serious help.Īdditionally, the mystery in Toma’s route is quite interesting, but unfortunately it’s only solved via an info dump near the end where Toma & some other characters explain everything. His bad ending only emphasizes this, as he keeps the heroine locked up, adds chains and a collar to the mix, and essentially breaks her mind. At worst, it’s normalizing some really unhealthy behaviors in relationships.

I don’t like characters like this, ESPECIALLY the ones that lock the heroine up for “her own protection”. Little did I know that Toma is a yandere who locks the heroine up to “keep her safe”, and because he loves her and wants her to himself. And since that sounded like a red flag, I decided to do his route first to get it over with. I knew he put our heroine in a cage-and nothing else. So, I had been spoiled a little to Toma’s route before playing it. My route order: Toma->Shin->Ikki->Kent->Ukyo The next bit will be spoilery-but not too spoilery because I truly think you should play this game yourself. I didn’t hold this last point against the game though.Īlright, that’s the end of my spoiler-free thoughts. Additionally, it makes replaying to get additional endings a little tedious because of all the choices to make. This makes using a guide to get all the endings practically a necessity. I love it.įinally, I’ll add that there are a LOT of choices to make in the game, upwards of 40 per route. The heroine having a personality before her amnesia is further proven by the short stories, which each take place before the beginning of the game & show her speaking up & showing some spunk.Īlso, did I mention that the Amnesia heroine is SUPER CUTE?! Seriously, her outfit and appearance are so cute. I expect the fandiscs and sequels do showcase the independent personality she had before. So, her not having much of a personality in this game is completely justified, since she did lose her memory.

It’s clear that, after her memories return, so does her personality-Ikki even says during his route “What could possibly turn you from your always independent self into someone so helpless?”, implying that the heroine had a clear, independent personality before the amnesia came along. I thought it’d be fitting since I heard the heroine of Amnesia is really self-inserty, & as I came to discover, she kind of is? There are moments where she will speak & express herself, though they usually only come towards the end of the route (& usually just the Good Ending at that) or in flashbacks. I’ll also admit something-this is the first visual novel ever where I gave the heroine my own name. It was also really fun to see how things change based on the reality the heroine enters into for example, the cafe manager’s differing personalities, or how different main characters work at the cafe depending on the reality you enter. But I did end up enjoying most of them quite a bit. That’s not to say I liked every single route-as we’ll discuss in the spoilery section, there were routes (well, a route) I didn’t like. The story takes very different turns depending on the route, and each route has a very unique story to tell. Sometimes, the mystery is surrounding the accident that caused the heroine to lose her memory in the first place other times, it’s a mystery surrounding the person she’s dating. This makes the story of each route an absolute joy to play through & discover. Each route has its own mystery surrounding the events taking place, and each mystery is intriguing. This game is great! It’s romance with a heavy, heavy dose of mystery. Can she solve the mystery, and recover what she has lost?įirst, my spoiler-free thoughts on Amnesia. She is given the choice of entering 4 (5 on the true route) different realities, each which holds a different mystery surrounding her lost memory. Let’s talk about it & see how it holds up, shall we?Īmnesia Summary: A college student’s spirit collides with a resident of the spirit world, causing the girl to lose her memories.

Ah Amnesia, a classic staple in every otome lover’s library.
